Analysis of book research and plan of my book.
I think my research into existing photobooks has helped my
understanding of how this display method can benefit images and help us to see
them in a different light, and I’m hoping now I can go about doing mine
successfully.
Here’s how I plan on doing it:
For the front cover I want to have one image covering the
whole page which is one of the things I liked from Stephen Hughe’s photobook,
however I don’t think I will be going for the subtracted text effect as I don’t
think it would suit the style I will be shooting in. So for the text I will go
down the roots of book ‘landmarks’ which had large text in a smart font. This
will most likely be positioned on the left hand side of the cover at the top.
As for my name, it won’t be featured on the front because it will be on the
second page in, this will prevent the cover becoming cluttered. The back cover
will be plan black with whatever the publisher has to put on it.
After leaving the first white page I will be on the first
double page where I will put the name of the book with my name under it in a
small text. The page right to it will be left blank unless there have to be
publisher acknowledgments around that point.
As for positioning my images and page structure, I think
pairing images will be my best option because I will have a lot of photos by
the time it comes to publishing, and I won’t be able to afford to have twice
the number of pages, single images pages would create. Consistence will be the
key to making a professional looking book so landscape and portrait format
images will have their own positions and they will be placed throughout the
book. Each image will have ample space around it which helped the images in
‘Landmarks’. As for positioning a panoramic image which I might consider doing
because of the book ‘The Great wide open’ it would depend on its size so I
would have to decide once the image is taken.
There will be the bare minimum in terms of text in my book
because the journey that I will be taking is very well known so the locations will
be known as well. I want people to be intrigued by the unique landscape so they
go out to view it themselves.
